Since the cancellation of the in-person events on campus, Illinifest Student Film Festival has been pursue a forum to continue showcasing the work of our UIUC filmmaking community. Presenting, the Illini Film Fest, a virtual film festival event, providing a collection of recent student films, coming attractions of projects awaiting completion and much, much more. The 2020 edition will feature “home movie” content from our undergraduate and graduate class, creative, thoughtful dispatches as they shelter-in-place. And we’re including a program of Tik Tok videos: show us your self-quarantine dance, a la Jack Black!

Audiences will be able to vote for their favorite in each category and awards will be given: a $100 gift card for the favorite short film; $75 for the most creative “home movie,” and $50 for the favorite Tik Tok video. Award date is TBD.

Submission deadline is April 24th.

If you are a UIUC filmmaker with a vision to share, a student with a hopeful, positive message to send, or someone who needs an outlet for a short burst of creative energy, the Illini Film Fest is here for you! We can’t guarantee that every submission will be included, but your submission is still needed! Short films submissions can use any number of forms: drama and comedy, music and dance videos, essays and documentaries, experimental and animation. If you planned a project that had to be postponed, send us a trailer of your coming attraction.  A “home movie” can be a short, imaginative sentiment for the rest of campus recorded on a mobile device, webcam, any media tech that’s handy! And if time is short, your Tik Tok videos can find a place here, as well. Each category of content will have its own program and audience award.
